Compassion and warmth through illustration
SuperCarers is an online platform helping families to find trusted local carers. The SuperCarers team reached to me to help them develop their illustrative brand. The aim was to convey professionalism, warmth, and care through a modern, modular, illustration system.
I worked with the team and the art director Ben Copland, to develop their initial illustration style and create a library of illustration for the launch of their new website. Here's a look at the process.
The main concern was in developing a style that embodied the cores values of compassion and trustworthiness, — and could reveal home assistance as an emancipation and joyful solution.
I first explored characters designs as they are central to the brand and focused on creating distinctive simple yet human figures. The team provided me with the new color palette, which I used to through the illustration to convey the identity of the brand.
During the first stage of the project, I refined the illustration to a level of finishing and texturing to improve the readability and which could be sustained. The execution was realized in Illustrator while keeping a charcoal pencil line aspect and edges. Through the project, it was important to keep the liveliness of the line and the irregular edges as they convey a sense of warmth
In a second time, it was important to develop a set of hero images showing different scenarios of care. From few hours of house chores or errand assistance to 24 hours live in care.
We wanted to show the people on a bright day, enjoying the company of the carer and the freedom they brought.
When it came to extending the style to an illustration library, the team provided me with a wishlist of elements in order to populate the website. The aim was to create a comforting atmosphere, wich item such as pasta bowl, slippers and radio.
I developed series illustrations with flattened perspective. Doing so assured that each object could be presented in a front view which can easily be used withing the website.
Some of this 'furniture elements' were animated so pick the visitor's eye and give life to the website. The animations are generated every so often variating from static image to the animated stage so that the website would not become over animated and distracting from its content.
The website is now live and running.
Special thanks to Ben Copland,
who brought me in to work on this project,
and to the SuperCarers team.
